Veteran singer Asha Bhosle, whose iconic song ‘Jhumka Gira Re’ was recently remixed and used in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani as ‘What Jhumka’, has opened up about the remixing of old songs and said that if today’s music directors had the capability to create new songs, they wouldn’t be rehashing the classics. The song was picturized on Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh.
In a conversation with India Today, Asha said, “If the music directors had the ability, or the singers, to bring something new… they don’t have the ability, that’s why they are recreating old songs.” She then brought up Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’s ‘What Jhumka’ and said, “For example, today ‘Jhumka Gira Re’ is working so well. It has come in a new film. It is an old song.” The song is from the 1966 film Mera Saaya and was picturized on Sadhana. The original composition was by music director Madan Mohan with lyrics by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan.
