With the overwhelming population using smart mobile phones across the globe, it is important to bear in mind some important security tips to avoid leakage of your privacy that may at times cause immeasurable loss to you.

1.       Do not download any App from unreliable sources

It is very common to receive certain links on your phones for download but pause before doing so because it may be a malware to access and steal your private information. Always rely on your App Store as it offers only those app that are mostly safe and secured to install.

2.       Keep your Phone Screen locked

Using phone without using a passcode to unlock its screen is full of dangerous implications as anyone who lays hand on your phone can misuse it the way he wants.  Also be careful that a strong password is used to unlock the screen.  Avoid using your date of birth or year or other common parameters as your instruments’ passcode to unlock them.  Clean your screen after every single use.

3.       Exercise discretion in allowing access to Apps

At the time of installation of an App, phone usually asks for access to your camera, contacts etc.  Always try to limit the access to be given to your App though it is not possible to use an app without giving access to some of basic information about you.  You may have the option of using some other similar Apps too that may ask for some limited access.  Explore it before installing an app.

4.       Use only reliable Networks

Most of the public places that we regularly visit do provide complimentary Wi-Fi facilities that tempt us to immediately use that to save our megabytes.  But be mindful, networks at public places are fraught with risk factors.  It is advisable to use VPN Service (Virtual Private Networks) to save yourself from invasion of your privacy.

5.       Have Security App

There are many anti-virus apps available to suit your varied requirement.  Install them on your computers, laptops and mobile phones. Even though it cost you some extra money, it is worth it lest your private information falls in the hands of hackers. Let’s not forget, we all use our phones, laptops, etc for our banking needs also.

6.       Uninstall unused Apps

Installed apps that we don’t use should be installed immediately.

7.       Location

Use on-location mode only when needed to save privacy of your movement.

*Above are only suggestive and illustrative tips in nature and not exhaustive ones to protect invasion of your privacy.
