All marriages performed according to Sikh rituals in Chandigarh can now be registered under the Anand Marriage Act 1909, with the UT administration implementing the Chandigarh Anand Marriage Registration Rules 2018.

The office of the deputy commissioner, in pursuance of the notification issued by the administration, implemented the rules on March 15 for the registration of marriages under the Anand Marriage Act, 1909.

Applicants can apply for registration of marriage under Anand Marriage Act in offline mode after collecting the application form from the marriage branch (window No. 5), ground floor, DC office, Sector 17, and submitting their applications along with requisite documents.

Chandigarh implemented the Act after Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, had asked the UT to do so.

Lalpura visited Chandigarh on February 22 and discussions were held with senior officers regarding the Chandigarh Anand Marriage Registration Rules 2018. The meeting/discussion had a fruitful outcome and led to the implementation of the rules with effect from March 15,” a UT official said. Lalpura, addressing a press conference, had said, “Only four states in the country have implemented the Anand Marriage Act, and I have asked the UT administration also to implement it.”
