Tips to prevent hair loss

 In the time when every other person is leading a stressful life for multiple reasons, premature hair loss has become a universal phenomenon.  In some cases, like hair loss after pregnancy etc, hair may regrow.  However, in most other cases, it  is almost an impossible task to have the lost hair back unless one goes for hair transplant.  Hair transplant, though a painful procedure and expensive proposition, has therefore become a lucrative industry.

It is hence advisable to take proper care of hair.  There are many things you can do to slow down the process of hair loss or stop hair loss.  The remedy depends on the reason why you are losing your hair.

Here are some tips to slow down/stop hair loss:

Diet

Diet plays very important role in your overall health.  It is therefore important that balanced diet that helps keep you fit and healthy is adopted in your daily life.  Studies reveal that a diet containing raw vegetables, fresh herbs, fruit may reduce the risk of androgenic alopecia that causes hair loss.  Don’t forget to add balanced protein diet as hair follicles are made mostly of protein called keratin. Healthy choices include foods like eggs, nuts, beans and peas, fish, low-fat dairy products, chicken, and turkey etc. 

Experts also advise Vitamin A in balance quantity to be part of your diet as it helps keep the scalp healthier and is able to retain more hairs.  Add foods rich in vitamin A, such as sweet potatoes, sweet peppers, and spinach, just to name a few.

Healthcare experts also say that vitamins A, B, C, D, iron, selenium, and zinc are all important to the hair growth and retention processes, specifically with cell turnover. Multivitamins are easily available at most grocery stores or chemist shops but take them only with your doctor’s advice.  Vitamin D with doctor’s advice may also help with regrowth.

Hair Care

Regular washing hair keeps scalp healthy and clean that may protect against hair loss.  Use a mild shampoo as harsher formulas may dry hair and leading to break and hair loss.

Massaging with Oil

Studies suggest that massaging scalp with coconut oil may help prevent hair damage from grooming and ultraviolet (UV) light exposure as the coconut oil contains lauric acid that protects hair from breakage at the root and strand.  Massaging scalp may also promote better blood flow and help with regrowth.

Olive Oil is also advised to deep condition hair as it protects hair from breakage and dryness

Hair Treatment

Chemical treatments may also damage hair and scalp. Instead of using cheap chemical hair colours, use organic hair dyes etc that do not contain ammonia or other harmful chemicals.  Consult your hair stylist before starting use of any hair colour.

Medical Treatments
